About
The City of Oakland's 34th Annual Community Day of Thanks
The City of Oakland's Community Homelessness Division of the Human Services Department, Alameda County - Oakland Community Action Partnership, and the Community Partner Sites continue a much-loved Thanksgiving Meal for the underserved of our community.
The Community Day of Thanks, in its 34thyear, is part of the City’s Hunger Program founded in 1985 during Mayor Lionel J. Wilson’s administration.
With the support of donors and volunteers, the City will serve thousands of low-income families, seniors, and persons experiencing homelessness with a hearty Thanksgiving meal on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.
For this year's Community Day of Thanks event, the City has once again contracted with the Oakland Marriott City Center to prepare the meals. As in previous years, Blaisdell’s Business Products has generously donated staff time and transportation services to deliver 2,700 hot meals to Community Partner Organizations throughout all seven Oakland districts for distribution to the community (including the City of Oakland's Safe RV sites and cabins). 500 meals will also be available for pick-up at the Marriott City Center hotel on a first come, first served basis.
"For 34 years, the Community Day of Thanks has embodied Oakland's spirit of caring for our neighbors in need, and I'm grateful to every volunteer, sponsor, and partner who makes this tradition possible. This tradition reminds us of what makes Oakland strong: our compassion and commitment to one another. That's the Oakland we all know and love," said Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee.
It is with ongoing community support and generous sponsorships that this event has reached its 34th year. We are grateful to our 2025 sponsors:
