Workforce Development Board

Created under the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), the Oakland Workforce Development Board (WDB) oversees city-wide employment and training programs. These programs connect Oaklanders with career opportunities and help businesses find skilled talent.

The Oakland WDB is made up of 14 members, most of whom are local business leaders. These members are appointed by the Mayor to help guide workforce programs across the city. The Mayor and the Board work together to make key decisions, while the City Council approves funding and contracts to carry out the Board’s work.
