Summary

The law (Oakland Municipal Code Chapter 5.93) applies to hotels with 50 or more rooms:

  • Hotel Minimum Wage (Effective Jan. 1, 2025): $18.36 per hour with benefits and $24.48 per hour without benefits.
  • Maximum Workload: 4,000 square feet of floorspace cleaned in 8 hours
  • Consent is required for working over 10 hours
  • Worker Safety: Panic buttons for housekeepers, room servers, and other hotel employees working alone in guest rooms or bathrooms.
