Karun Tilak is a local government attorney with significant experience in consumer protection and civil rights litigation. He is currently a Deputy City Attorney at the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office and previously worked for Santa Clara County and the City of Oakland. In these roles, Karun has litigated complex cases on behalf of governments to protect public health and the environment, hold corporations accountable for harming consumers, and safeguard tenants’ rights.
 
Karun has also advised government agencies on compliance with state and local public safety and transparency laws. Before entering government service, Karun worked in private practice, where he litigated several cases challenging anti-democratic policies enacted by the federal government.
 
Karun holds a law degree from Yale Law School, and a B.A./B.S in International Relations and Economics from American University. He has been an Oakland resident since 2018. Mr. Tilak resides in District 1.
