Bike Oakland Newsletter

The "(Bike) Oakland" newsletter is published twice a year by Oakland's Bicycle & Pedestrian Program. The newsletter reports progress implementing Oakland's Bicycle Plan.

Bike Share

The City of Oakland's bike share program, now called Bay Wheels, is operated by Lyft. The regional docked system, previously known as Ford GoBike, launched in July 2017. In July 2019, Lyft is renaming these bikes Bay Wheels, adding a new fleet of dockless electric bikes, and expanding its service area to include all of Oakland by Spring 2020. In May 2019, the City launched its adaptive bike share pilot.

Bike Stations

​Oakland is home to Bike Stations serving the Fruitvale and 19th St BART Stations, with two more under development.

Bus Shelters and Street Furniture

​The City has entered into agreement with Clear Channel Adshel to install and maintain illuminated advertising bus shelters, which include litter containers installed near bus shelters, as well as AC Transit-provided bus system information.
