OPD Needs Help Solving Lake Merritt Homicide Case

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is releasing the identity of the deceased victim located on October 31, 2023, in the 1900 block of Lakeshore Avenue. 23-year-old Gabriel Gomez Raymundo was discovered inside a suitcase floating in Lake Merritt.

OPD is asking for the community’s assistance with any information about Mr. Gomez Raymundo (where he lived, worked, associates, etc.), as well as any tips surrounding his death.

OPD and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.

BACKGROUND:

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating a suspicious death. Just before 11:00 AM, on October 31, 2023, OPD's Communications Division received a call reporting a body in the 1900 block of Lakeshore Avenue.

Once on scene, officers located a victim with unknown injuries and promptly requested medical assistance.

Investigators from the OPD Homicide Section responded to the location to conduct a comprehensive follow-up investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.

The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.
