OPD Makes Arrest in Homicide Case
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) arrested Juan Sura-Martinez for the homicide of Guillermo Kelly-Torres, which occurred on August 20, 2023, in the 9200 block of E. Street. Sura Martinez turned himself into the Oakland Police Department later that morning and was taken into custody.
The Alameda County District Attorney's Office charged Sura-Martinez with the crime.
Background:
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating a homicide that occurred on August 20, 2023, just before 6:00 AM, in the 9200 block of E. Street. OPD Communications Division received reports of a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and located a victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound(s).
Medical personnel arrived on scene and attempted life-saving measures, but unfortunately, the victim succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.
Investigators from the OPD Homicide Section responded to the scene to take over the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending positive identification and notification to next of kin.
