Oakland Mutual Aid Collective

Oakland Mutual Aid Collective is organized by intergenerational women of color, who work to distribute basic needs supplies in their respective communities, which are disproportionally impacted by the spread of COVID-19.

We are fundraising to procure and rapidly distribute 30,000 reusable cloth face masks, public health information, and hand sanitizer to Oakland’s unhoused, low-income families, seniors, BIPOC, children and youth.

Oakland Mutual Aid Collective for Oakland Organized By Councilmember Sheng Thao, AAPI Women Lead, and UCSF.

In partnership with UCSF, labor unions, Oakland firefighters, community leaders, and private enterprises, Oakland City Councilmember Sheng Thao is proud to announce a fundraising effort to provide 30,000 masks to Oakland’s most vulnerable residents.

This effort follows the recent CDC guidance and a countywide order requiring our communities to wear facemasks when performing essential activities.

As a form of mutual aid during this public health crisis, this project will support organizations and community groups that are working to take care of our communities, with specific attention to our most marginalized populations. This includes our houseless communities, Black and Latinx neighbors, different immigrant groups, disabled communities, and other under-resourced populations. We know that when the mandate for everyone to wear masks takes place next week, not all of our communities will have access to them. We want to draw on our resources to support one another, especially our most vulnerable.

Your donation will help to support our most most vulnerable Oakland communities. Funds will go directly towards face masks that will be given out to Oakland communities.

Help us get to 30,000 masks to continue to flatten the curve and to support our communities during COVID-19.

Thank you for your generous donation.

In Community,

AAPI Women Lead Team & Councilmember Sheng Thao
