The City of Oakland provides services and programs that address illegal dumping. Use the service that best fit your needs and help us reduce illegal dumping. You can improve our neighborhoods by requesting City services, reporting dumping, and volunteering to keep Oakland beautiful!

Oakland offers all residents, including renters, the opportunity to drop off oversize, household junk for FREE! No Reservations Required!
Free Legal Dumping Services
All residents, including renters, may directly schedule a free bulky curbside pickup and a free bulky drop-off with Waste Management. Schedule by calling 1-888-WM-BULKY or directly online.

Schedule a one-time drop off of up to four cubic yards (3 ft x 3 ft x 12 ft, approx.) of bulky waste at the Davis Street Resource Recovery Complex in San Leandro (2615 Davis Street, San Leandro, CA 94577).

Residents with a vehicle who want to self-haul large loads.

Instructions
What do I need for my drop off appointment at the Davis Street Resource Recovery Complex?
- Valid Email Address (this ensures immediate confirmation and additional instructions are sent to you)
- Date and Time of Appointment (listed in your confirmation email)
- Proof of Oakland Residency (e.g. Drivers License, household bill
- Acceptable items packed for quick and safe drop off (see below)
Acceptable Items for Drop-off Appointment
Up to 4 cubic yards (3 ft x 3 ft x 12 ft, approx.) of bulky waste that may include the following:
- Furniture and carpets
- Non-hazardous items
- (box or bag loose items),
- Painted wood/doors, home remodeling debris
- Appliances
- monitors, electronics
- Automobile tires
- Scrap metal
- Cardboard (flattened & bundled)
- Plant debris, branches, clean wood

If you have more than the allowable amount and items, you will be charged additional rates for the number of yardage/items.

Davis Street Resource Recovery Complex (2615 Davis Street, San Leandro, CA 94577)
There are two drop off areas (Area A and Area B) for different materials (click here to view map). Please pack your vehicle for quick, safe and easy unloading of acceptable materials. Pack “Area B” items first, and “Area A” items last so you can unload “A” items first. Davis Street employees will not be able to help you unload materials from your vehicle.

Schedule an appointment to get rid of up to four cubic yards (3 ft x 3 ft x 12 ft, approx.) of waste, plus a limited number of large items.
Best for
Residents who want scheduled pickup of furniture, mattresses, or large appliances right at their curb
Cost:
Free
- 1 pickup for all residents annually
- 2 pickups for single-family homes only; 45 days after the use of one bulky drop off and one curbside pickup
Instructions
- Place items at the curb by 6 a.m. on the day of your appointment to ensure collection.
- Do not place items curbside more than one day before your scheduled pick up date or you may be subject to a City fine.
- Set-outs over the allowed amounts are also subject to a fee.

- Furniture and carpets (roll and tape all carpets)
- Non-hazardous items (box or bag loose items),
- Painted wood/doors, home remodeling debris
PLUS these Large Items: (Please keep separate from other items)
- 1 appliance
- 2 mattress or box springs
- 2 automobile tires or smaller (rims ok)
- 2 computer monitors, CPUs or TVs
- Consumer electronics
PLUS these Additional Accepted Items:
- Scrap metal
- Cardboard (flattened & bundled)
- Plant debris (paper bagged)
- Branches (4ft long, 6 in. wide limit) and clean wood (must be bundled)

Report Illegal Dumping
If you found illegally dumped materials in the streets, contact OAK 311 by calling 311 or (510) 615-5566. You can also use the OAK 311 app on your smart phone to photograph and report illegal dumping. Available free in the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Report
You report the issue by phone, website, app, or email.
Review
We review your request and provide a tracking number.
Assign
We assign your request to the appropriate work group.
Work
Service is provided. Completion times vary.
Report Dumping Activity
If you see dumping activity and can safely document, email the following to stopdumping@oaklandca.gov:
- Footage of the dumping (photos and/or video)
- Location (street address or cross streets)
- Car Information (license plate, color, make, model)
- Description of what you saw taking place.
Oakland’s Environmental Enforcement Officers will review the footage, perform on‑site investigations, and issue citations to people who dump or who are connected to the dumping activity.
