Update: On Friday, August 21, the Alameda County Public Health Official issued updated Shelter-in-Place Orders to reopen outdoor swimming pools. To re-opening City-operated outdoor pools, the City of Oakland is reviewing the Health Order requirements and has begun to resume essential training and American Red Cross certification programs for staff in anticipation of re-opening Lions Pool at Dimond Park starting in Monday, September 14, 2020. More specific guidance and plans regarding re-opening for a second City-operated pool will be forthcoming.
Lap Swim will be available by reservation only. Lap Swim will be broken down into 45 minutes sessions. For Lions Pool, there will be a max of 5 swimmers per session, 1 person per lane.
Reservations will be made through Sign Up Genius. Swimmers will be allowed to reserve a maximum of 2 swims per week.
Locker rooms will remain closed to the public per Alameda County Public Health Department's orders.
Restroom facilities in the park will be available for use during pool operational hours.
Enter Lions Pool from the deck gate to the immediate right of the main facility entrance.
Pre-Screening is required before proceeding to the assigned lane. Pre-screening includes a series of questions and a temperature check. Additionally, swimmers must wear face-covering for the duration of the visit except when in water.
Staff will verbally administer the following questions regarding exposure to COVID-19
- Does anyone in your household have, or have had within the past fourteen days, any of the following:
- Persistent cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Sore throat
- Muscle or body aches
- Loss of taste or smell
- Has anyone in your household had close exposure to confirmed COVID-19 person/persons in the last 14 days?
- Have you taken medication to lower your temperature?
Temperature check. Staff will check the temperature with a contactless thermometer. If the temperature is 100.4 or higher, the swimmer will not be admitted.
We ask all swimmers to exit the pool on time and in consideration of the time needed to clean high touch surfaces and ready the facility for the next session of swimmers.
Air Quality Aquatics Facilities will close when air quality in the area of Facility is above 150 Red / Unhealthy according to AirNow.gov per Oakland Parks Recreation and Youth Department policy. To find air quality index in AirNow.gov search for facility using zip code.
Lions Pool is located at Dimond Park near Dimond Recreation Center. We serve the Dimond & Laurel district with fun, safe and recreational programs. Our programs include swimming classes and lessons for tiny tots, children and adults, swim team practice and much more.
