Sick or Injured Animals in Oakland

If you find a sick or injured domestic animal, such as a dog, cat, or rabbit, you can bring the animal to Oakland Animal Services (OAS) during open hours. OAS does not provide veterinary care for the public, but the shelter will accept sick or injured animals and decide whether the animal can receive medical treatment or needs humane euthanasia.

Domestic Animals

OAS does not provide veterinary care to the public, but the shelter will accept the animal and decide whether medical treatment or humane euthanasia is needed.

After Hours Help for Domestic Animals

If you find a domestic animal when OAS is closed and you can transport it, please take it to the Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in San Ramon. If you cannot transport the animal, call the Oakland Police Department non‑emergency line at 510‑777‑3333 and wait to speak with a dispatcher.

Wild or Non‑Domestic Animals

If you find a sick or injured wild animal, please call the Oakland Police Department non‑emergency line at 510‑777‑3333 for help.
