Lincoln Square Park and Recreation Center

After close to 30 years of planning and community engagement, the City of Oakland will soon replace the existing recreation center with a new two-story, 22,221 square-foot recreation and community resilience center. The new center will be bigger and better suited to serve neighborhood and City residents. The celebration to kick off this event took place July 30, 2026.

To the Lincoln Square Park Community:

It is with extreme sadness that we share that OPRYD and Lincoln Square Park’s beloved Ms. Kathy passed away on October 6, 2026 after a month-long battle in the hospital. Ms. Kathy led the well-known children programs for over ten years. She was known for creating a safe space for youth to thrive, and created endless opportunities for Oakland youth to explore the entire Bay Area by foot and public transit.

She is already sorely missed and our hearts go out to Ms. Kathy’s family and the Lincoln Community.

Updates for the community and resources for grieving are available at Friends of Lincoln Square Park: https://www.friendsoflincolnsquarepark.org/blog/mskathy

  • Half of the park will remain open, including both playgrounds, 1 basketball court, the Alice Street alley, the soccer field, four square courts, the outdoor stage, and the outdoor gym.

  • Parking impacts:  May be impacted depending on construction activities.

  • Bus Station impacts: The bus station at 11th and Harrison is TBD.

Thank You for Your Patience

Our City of Oakland Public Works team will share regular progress updates on their website. Our community partner Friends of Lincoln Square Park will also share park updates.
