Nine Arrested, Firearms Seized in OPD Crackdown on Illegal Casinos

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating multiple illegal gambling operations citywide. Last month, OPD’s Real Time Operations Center (RTOC) identified a significant increase in violence linked to illegal gambling casinos in Oakland.

From March 1 to March 5, 2025, OPD executed search warrants at several locations, including the 1400 block of 17th Avenue, the 1900 block of 17th Avenue, and the 9200 block of Plymouth Street.

During the search, officers discovered unlicensed casinos and seized more than a dozen firearms, suspected methamphetamine, gambling machines, and ammunition. Additionally, officers arrested nine individuals in connection with illegal gambling activities.

These arrests were coordinated with OPD’s Special Resources Sections (SRS) East and West, CeaseFire, Criminal Investigation Division (CID), Intelligence Unit, and Patrol.

We would also like to thank our federal partners, including the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

This effort is part of an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about this case can contact OPD’s General Crimes Unit at (510) 238-3728.

OPD remains committed to proactive policing to enhance public safety and will continue to take action to prevent violence and ensure the safety and well-being of our community members.
