Arrest Made in the Kevin Nishita Case

The Oakland Police Department (OPD), in collaboration with the United States Marshals Service, has arrested Laron Gilbert in connection with the homicide of Kevin Nishita, which occurred on November 24, 2021, in the 300 block of 14th Street.

Arrest Made in the Kevin Nishita Case

The Oakland Police Department (OPD), in collaboration with the United States Marshals Service, has arrested Laron Gilbert in connection with the homicide of Kevin Nishita, which occurred on November 24, 2021, in the 300 block of 14th Street.

Gilbert was safely taken into custody by the US Marshals on January 17, 2024, in Kansas City, Missouri.

OPD Homicide Investigators flew to Missouri to interview Gilbert and begin the extradition process to California.

We want to thank OPD Homicide Investigators, Violent Crime Operations Center (VCOC), Ceasefire, San Francisco Police Department, San Francisco District Attorney's Office, California Highway Patrol, and US Marshals for their tireless and collaborative efforts over the years that led to this arrest.

The Alameda County District Attorney's Office has filed charges against Gilbert for his involvement in the crime.
