Oakland, CA - Oakland’s District 3 And The 4 Peace Coalition Partner With Oakland Public Works To Address Large Junk Disposal In West Oakland
The District 3 Office of Councilmember Carroll Fife, Oakland Public Works (OPW) and the 4 Peace Coalition have partnered to be the second site for the new Neighborhood Bulky Block Party program- an effort partnering OPW with community groups to support their desire for ownership in keeping their neighborhoods clean. The program brings the popular, free monthly Bulky Block Party event for large junk drop-off into Oakland neighborhoods most affected by illegal dumping. District 3 is one of the two council districts most impacted by dumping and blight and the bulky block party is one effort to address it.
The program seeks to work closely with neighborhood leaders and groups, including the Neighborhood Council and the Resident Action Council, to ensure strong community participation and support in all efforts to provide and maintain clean, healthy neighborhoods. In the lead up to the event, community partners canvass the neighborhood to raise awareness of the event and provide additional service information so residents can learn about, and take full advantage of, OAK311, the bulky collection program, Adopt a Spot or Adopt a Drain efforts, and more. The event welcomes West Oakland residents to come drop off large items at no charge.
