The City of Oakland Head Start has been closely monitoring the surge of COVID-19 cases in Alameda County and has decided to suspend in-class learning through Friday, January 22nd, 2021. This decision has been made to protect the health and safety of Oakland Head Start children, families and staff.
Children may tentatively return to in-person class on Monday, January 25th, 2021. During the center closures, Oakland Head Start center classrooms will be deep cleaned and disinfected so they are ready for children and staff to return. Due to the Winter Break schedule, Oakland Head Start centers have been closed to students since December 21, 2020.
As the City of Oakland Head Start has done since the first day of returning to in-person class in September 2020, we will continue to take every precaution. We will continue to screen all children and employees as they enter the school and encourage hand hygiene, sanitizing and mask usage.
If you are an Oakland Head Start parent/guardian and this closure of in-person services has a severe impact on your family or you have any questions or require further information, please contact your Center Director or Family Advocate. You can also call 510-238-3165.
