Homicide Investigation in the 1800 block of Independence Way

On November 6, 2020, at about 3:36 AM, the Oakland Police Department Patrol Division was dispatched to the 1800 block of Independence Way for a Shotspotter activation.

On November 6, 2020, at about 3:36 AM, the Oakland Police Department Patrol Division was dispatched to the 1800 block of Independence Way for a Shotspotter activation. Upon arrival, officers located evidence of a shooting scene but no victim. Shortly afterward, officers were dispatched to an area hospital for a report of a female victim with a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The preliminary investigation determined that these incidents were connected.

Oakland Police Homicide Investigators responded to the scene and began the follow-up investigation into the circumstances surrounding the apparent shooting. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.
