The Office of the City Clerk serves the Oakland City Council, City Administration, and residents of the City of Oakland. Our primary responsibilities include producing City Council's agenda materials, conduct of the City’s elections, political filings, and administration of records management services citywide. Additionally, the Office of the City Clerk provides free public access to Council meeting materials to ensure that members of the public can be informed, civically engaged citizens.

LaTonda Simmons has served as the City Clerk since 2005. With the interest of improving public participation, Ms. Simmons’ top priority was to improve agenda management processes to make the information and discussions of the Council meetings more conveniently accessible to the public. With this objective in mind, the Office of the City Clerk shifted subscription-based access to public agenda reports to 24/7 online free access and added tools to so the public may file comments with all members of the City Council and Administration at one time. She is recognized as a member of the California Association of Clerks and Elections Officials (CACEO), City Clerks Association of California (CCAC), and International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) with the designation as a Certified Municipal Clerk recognizing expertise in municipal management and performance of the complex duties in the City Clerk profession. And she is an Oakland native!
