Fire Station #6, originally constructed in October 1961 and seismically retrofitted in 1997, is undergoing essential renovations to modernize facilities and ensure full code compliance.
The project will address critical accessibility deficiencies at the building entrance, making the station compliant with current standards. Interior improvements include bathroom updates, replacement of the gas-fired stove with a new electric stove in alignment with the City's Environmental and Climate Action Plan (ECAP) requirements, and comprehensive lighting upgrades to meet energy efficiency standards.
Additional work will resolve code-deficient conditions including electrical component updates and waterproofing repairs to protect the facility's structural integrity.
These improvements will ensure Fire Station #6 continues to serve the Oakland community safely and effectively for years to come.
