Suspect in Custody After Shots Fired at Officers

Oakland Police Department (OPD) Officers responded to a report of domestic violence involving three victims, one adult and two children, around 1:30 a.m. on August 8, 2025, in the 1000 block of West Grand Avenue. 

When officers arrived, they announced and identified themselves as police to the suspect and victims. Shortly thereafter, gunfire was directed towards the responding officers.  The officers were able to contain the situation. 

Thankfully, no one was injured. The victims were removed from the danger, and the suspect was safely taken into custody. A firearm was also recovered at the scene. 

“This incident is a reminder of the dangers our officers face when responding to calls for service,” said Chief Floyd Mitchell. “I am grateful no one was hurt, and I commend our officers' professionalism and courage in protecting the victims and our community.”
