OPD NEWS:

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating a stabbing that occurred on August 19, 2025, around 6:30 p.m., in the 1600 block of 81st Avenue.

Officers arrived on the scene, and they located a female victim with multiple stab wounds. Officers immediately provided lifesaving aid, applying tourniquets and pressure to control bleeding and stabilize the victim until Falck Ambulance transported the victim to an area hospital.

OPD Officers S. Durkin, L. Roman, and E. Varela’s quick actions reflect the Department’s commitment to public safety. Swift and decisive efforts likely saved the victim’s life, and the medical staff last listed her in stable condition.

While officers were providing aid to the victim, the suspect, still armed with a knife, returned to the scene and confronted the officers. However, the officers were able to take the suspect into custody safely.

The suspect faces multiple charges, including attempted homicide and domestic violence. The case was presented to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for possible prosecution.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the OPD Special Victims Section at (510) 238-3641.

In 2023, the City of Oakland received a grant and partnered with High Threat Innovations to equip all patrol officers with trauma first-aid kits. These kits have played a critical role in helping officers provide immediate medical care to victims, saving lives across the community.
