Oakland Public Works celebrates Earth Day on April 18

Volunteers will clean and green at over 75 sites throughout the City for Oakland Earth Day


Oakland, CA ––On Saturday, April 18, Oakland Public Works (OPW) will celebrate its 32nd annual Oakland Earth Day with volunteer events at over 75 sites across the City.

Community members can take action to protect and enhance Oakland’s natural environment by participating in a neighborhood clean-up, tending a community garden, planting trees or learning more about environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.

“Year after year, our community partners and volunteers make Oakland Earth Day possible,” said Liam Garland, Director of Oakland Public Works. “It’s encouraging to see the community come together and build a culture of stewardship that keeps Oakland cleaner, greener and more connected.”

Eleven Oakland community gardens will alsogiveway free compost to grow fresh flowers, herbs and produce:

  • Allendale Community Garden, 3711 Suter St.

  • Arroyo Viejo Community Garden, Arthur St. and 79th Ave.

  • Bella Vista Community Garden, 11th Ave. behind Bella Vista Elementary

  • Bushrod Community Garden, 584 59th St.

  • Cesar Chavez Community Garden, 1835 38th Ave.

  • Golden Gate Community Garden, 1068 62nd St.

  • Lakeside Park Community Garden, 666 Bellevue Ave.

  • Mosswood Community Garden, Webster St. and MacArthur Blvd.

  • San Antonio Community Garden, 16th Ave. and E 19th St.

  • Temescal Community Garden, 876 47th St.

  • Union Plaza Community Garden, 34th St. and Peralta St.
