Oakland, CA – July 21, 2025 – Mayor Barbara Lee joined the Mayor's Commission on Persons with Disabilities this evening to commemorate the upcoming 35th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The ceremony recognized the Commission's significant contributions over the past year, including their leadership role in advancing the Elevator Maintenance Ordinance, adopted unanimously by City Council, which improves access to reliable elevators in multi-unit residential buildings.
"Oakland's commitment to accessibility, equity, and inclusion grows stronger everyday thanks to the advocacy and expertise of our Commission members," said Mayor Lee.
The Commission also helped shape the Reusable Foodware and Plastic Litter Reduction Ordinance, ensuring accessibility considerations were integrated into the City's environmental efforts.
