The following statement can be attributed to Oakland City Administrator Jestin Johnson in response to the City Auditor's performance audit of illegal dumping published on April 23, 2026.
"Illegal dumping is a serious issue in Oakland, and we appreciate the Auditor's recommendations, most of which are underway or complete. Earlier this week, Mayor Barbara Lee was joined by Oakland leaders, community organizations and regional partners to present an update on the City's comprehensive illegal dumping strategy. The plan includes new enforcement actions, public education initiatives, technology investments, enhanced legislative tools and statewide accountability efforts to clean up our streets and neighborhoods."
