CCRP For Tenants

You may be entitled to relocation benefits if you are required to move because:

  • The property owner needs to complete substantial code-related repairs that cannot be performed while the unit is occupied.
  • The City has issued a Notice to Vacate, Notice to Abate a Life-Threatening Condition, or similar order affecting your unit.
  • Serious code violations exist and the owner requires you to move because of those conditions.

What Should I Do?

  1. Notify the property owner of health and safety concerns in writing.
  2. Contact Code Enforcement if an inspection is needed and the property owner has not already done so. Please call (510) 238-3381 or email bbcode-inspect@Oaklandca.gov to schedule an inspection.
  3. Provide request for relocation benefits to the property owner.
  4. Submit an Eligibility Application to CCRP if you believe relocation benefits are owed and the issue cannot be resolved directly with your property owner.  Due to high case volume for CCRP, it is typically faster to work with your property owner first.

When Should You Apply to CCRP?

You should submit an eligibility application only if:

  • The owner refuses to pay required relocation benefits.
  • You disagree about whether relocation benefits are owed.
  • You are unsure whether your situation qualifies.
  • You need assistance understanding your rights under Oakland Municipal Code Chapter 15.60.
