CCRP For Property Owners

Property owners are responsible for complying with Oakland Municipal Code Chapter 15.60 when relocation benefits are required.

You may be required to provide relocation benefits if:

  • You are requiring a tenant to temporarily or permanently vacate so substantial code-related repairs can be completed.
  • The City has determined that a unit is unsafe for human habitation.
  • Your code compliance activities result in tenant displacement.

What Should You Do?

  1. Review this flyer and the relevant sections of the Oakland Municipal Code to understand your obligations.
  2. Determine whether the planned work qualifies as code compliance activity under the ordinance.
  3. Obtain all required permits before issuing any notice requiring a tenant to vacate.
  4. Calculate the required relocation benefits.
  5. Provide required payments within the timelines established by the ordinance.
  6. Consult CCRP if you are unsure about your obligations.
