Oakland Modern ADU

Building Owners who have built unpermitted Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and Junior Accessory Dwelling Units (JADUs) on their property should legalize their ADUs/JADUs to take full advantage of their value and benefits, and to ensure safe habitability.

If you have an ADU built without permits, you may qualify for one of the following:

  1. Amnesty from violations of Planning Code standards if constructed prior to January 1, 2021; and
  2. Delay in enforcement action for ADUs/ JADUs constructed prior to January 1, 2020 without required permits such as fines, penalties, and orders to remove, modify, or alter- providing an opportunity to address code violations of certain Building Code requirements to fix violations without penalties; and/or
  3. A permit process to legalize the previously unpermitted structure pursuant to Government Code Section 66332 (AB 2533) if the structure was built prior to January 1, 2020

Take advantage of this opportunity to increase your income by being able to rent out your legal ADU (terms of 30 days or more), reduce safety risks for occupants through our professional inspections, reduce your legal liability from uncovered damages associated with unpermitted ADUs, and increase your home property value and appeal to buyers!
