Luke Apfeld is a trial attorney at Keker, Van Nest and Peters LLP, a litigation boutique in San Francisco. He focuses his practice on high-stakes litigation including complex commercial matters, intellectual property disputes, and criminal cases. He has experience in state and federal courts, at the trial and appellate levels, and in arbitration. Luke also maintains a robust pro bono practice focused primarily on student-athletes as well as civil and human rights. Prior to joining Keker, Luke served as a law clerk to Judge John Owens of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and to Judge Andrew Carter of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. He also worked for the Senate Judiciary Committee under Senator Patrick Leahy (VT) and was a coach for the Golden State Warriors Youth Development Program.
Luke takes pride in his community and is an active board member for the Charles Houston Bar Association and the East Bay Community Law Center. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball and tennis, trying new restaurants in Oakland, and traveling with his wife and puppy.
Luke earned his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law and a B.A. in English and sociology from the University of Vermont. He has been an Oakland resident since 2015, except for short stints in New York City and San Diego, and he currently resides in District 1.
