About

Oakland is consistently recognized as one of the most livable and sustainable cities in the nation. The City of Oakland is committed to leading the community’s progress in becoming a more sustainable city – a community in which all people have the opportunity to pursue safe, happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives, now and into the future. Reducing our climate emissions; protecting an ecologically healthy environment; growing a strong economy brimming with opportunity for all Oaklanders; and fostering a safe, equitable, and vibrant community are all critical components of this vision. The City of Oakland’s sustainability efforts are grounded in an awareness of the global climate crisis, and of the fact that climate change impacts communities disproportionately. In order to thrive, we must not only reduce (and reverse) our climate impact; we must do so in a way that protects and uplifts frontline communities first and foremost, ensuring that all climate action is a step toward climate justice.
