OakPark+

The City's Demand Responsive Parking and Mobility Management Initiative

About

The City of Oakland’s Department of Transportation is charged with improving transportation choices and minimizing parking demand, congestion, and pollution, including managing public parking to balance the diverse needs of Oakland’s visitors, merchants, commuters, and residents.

OakPark+ is the City's Demand Responsive Parking and Mobility Management Initiative, a federally funded program that aims to improve the parking and mobility experience in Oakland. Derived from the Downtown Oakland Parking Study, this initiative has three primary goals for downtown Oakland:

  1. Increase parking availability through variable pricing and time limits,
  2. Improve customer satisfaction, and
  3. Actively manage the parking supply to support environmental, economic, and social equity goals.

Transportation Demand Management (TDM) is also critical component of this initiative by providing attractive travel alternatives to driving alone and parking, including elevating bicycling, transit, and shared mobility options.
