The Oakland City Council supports Oakland-based nonprofits and community-based organizations that provide direct services or programs to Oakland Residents and are working to advance the City's racial equity goals.

Program Overview

Cooking Class

The Council is looking to fund community based projects that are aligned with the following City Council Priorities:

  • Affordable Housing & Homelessness Solutions
  • Public Safety & Violence Prevention
  • Good Jobs and Vibrant Economy
  • Clean, Healthy, and Sustainable Neighborhoods

Organizations can receive grants to help advance racial equity by focusing on priority neighborhoods, creating economic opportunities, and/or promoting health and safety.

Application Process - Closed

The 2023 Direct Community Grant application period has closed. Nonprofit and Community-Based Organizations who wish to apply in the future must register in iSupplier for future notifications.

  • Distribution of RFP January 20, 2023
  • Pre-proposal Meeting January 24, 2023 and January 27, 2023
  • Pre-proposal Workshops January 31, 2023 and March 10, 2023
  • Submission of RFP March 17, 2023
  • Evaluation of Proposals April 21, 2023
  • Eligibility List Established May 1, 2023
  • Mayor’s Budget Released May 1, 2023
  • City Council Budget Released June 1, 2023
  • Biennial Budget Adopted June 26, 2023
  • Grant Award Resolution Adopted September 19, 2023
  • Grant Agreement Negotiated September 30, 2023
  • Grant Agreement Executed October 1-31, 2023
