In 2016, Signature Development Group submitted an application for construction of 44 residential units, various site and circulation improvements, and expansion of club membership and facilities on the grounds of the Claremont Hotel, a designated City Landmark (Case File #PLN16053).
In 2006, the US EPA awarded the City of Oakland two “community-wide” brownfield assessment grants totaling $400,000 for use in the Coliseum Area of east Oakland.
CONSTRUCTION STATUS: In Spring of 2022 OakDOT broke ground starting off construction for the Crossing to Safety Project. We now anticipate to complete construction in Spring of 2023. Late equipment deliveries for traffic signal controllers, however, may delay project completion further due to the ongoing chip shortage and associated supply chain issues. We will continue to provide updates here as we are made aware of changes with equipment delivery.

This project was formerly known as 222 19th Street Development Project. The project proposed the demolition of the existing garden associated with the historic August Schilling estate and construction of a 42-story residential high-rise (457’-9” to the top of the pyramidal roof form) containing 370 for-sale units, a 933 sq. ft. of ground floor café, and 357 parking spaces in five levels of underground parking.
