QUALIFICATIONS

Councilmember - Citizen of the United States, resident and registered voter of the City and/or District for at least 30 days at the time nomination papers are issued.

City Attorney – Citizen of the United States, resident and registered voter of the City for at least 30 days at the time nomination papers are issued. Candidates shall be licensed to practice law in all courts of the State of California and so licensed for at least ten years preceding their election.

School Board Director - Citizen of the United States, registered voter and resident of the designated district for which they are a candidate for at least 30 days at the time nomination papers are issued.

CANDIDATE’S FILING FEE

The “non-refundable” filing fee for the City of Oakland is $1,000*. The full amount can be paid when the papers are issued or $50 can be paid when the papers are issued and the balance can be paid when the papers are filed. Checks should be payable to the City of Oakland.

NOMINATION PERIOD

Opens 8:30 AM – Monday, July 13, 2020

Closes 5:00 PM – Friday, August 7, 2020

If the incumbent does not file, then the nomination period is extended for five (5) days to Wednesday, August 12, 2020.

Nomination Papers are issued and filed only in the office of the City Clerk located at City Hall, 1 Frank Ogawa Plaza, 2nd Floor, Oakland, CA. Please call the Office of the City Clerk, if you have any questions.

In order to ensure proper processing of your nomination papers, please plan to complete and file them with the Office of the City Clerk at the earliest possible time. Plan to spend at least 20 minutes in this office in order to accurately complete the filing process. Please type or legibly print all information on your forms as this will help avoid delays and prevent errors.
