City-Owned Parking Garages and Lots

The City of Oakland's Off-Street Parking Program is organized within the Department of Transportation's Parking & Mobility Division. The program is authorized by Article XXVII of the City Charter. The City uses professional parking operators to operate and manage these facilities with the aim of maximizing their value for the surrounding districts. The City contracts with the non-profit Lake Merritt Institute to remove litter along the shoreline, maintain trash booms and aeration fountains, provide education for schools and businesses, and coordinate volunteers in these activities.

The primary purpose of this chapter is to provide for owner-paid relocation payments and assistance to residential tenants who are displaced due to compliance with building, housing, and fire codes.

Community Jobs Agreement Working Group

Community Jobs Agreement Working Group (CJAWG) is a community advisory group that will develop an overarching Community Jobs Agreement for the Army Base project, which will encompass construction and operations jobs.

Community Policing Ad Hoc

The Community Policing Ad Hoc committee is dedicated to developing a new policy directing the Oakland Police Department's role in Community Policing. This project began in earnest in July 2021 in partnership with community leaders, activists, police officers, and city staff. OPD has resubmitted the policy with amendments for review by the Ad Hoc, which reconvened in June 2023.
