In 2020, a crash analysis was conducted in the area surrounding the Port of Oakland, including Downtown, West Oakland, Chinatown, and Jack London Square. A number of intersections and roadway segments were identified as having high reported crash frequency. Eleven intersections were identified, and of those, eight are being addressed through corridor-level projects led by the Major Projects Division. Three of the 11 intersections found to have a higher crash frequency are not located on any of MPD’s projects: Brush at 17th and 18th Streets, and MLK Jr. Way at 17th Street.
The Crash Analysis Improvements will enhance traffic safety for all modes at the intersections of Brush at 17th and 18th Streets, and MLK Jr. Way at 17th Street.
