About

The Adeline Street Improvements will reduce Port-related truck congestion and traffic-related air pollution (TRAP) in the West Oakland community while simultaneously improving the safety and efficiency of goods movement to and from the Port of Oakland. The project improvements will include:

  • Adding a southbound left-turn lane on Adeline Street to eastbound 3rd Street while prohibiting left-turning traffic on northbound Adeline Street leaving the Port of Oakland.
  • Constructing curb extensions on the south side of 3rd Street on either side of Adeline Street to improve the visibility of pedestrians along this primary truck route. Upgrading existing traffic signals at the intersections of Adeline and 3rd, 5th, and 7th Streets.
  • Reconfiguring the I-880 southbound off-ramp intersection at Union Street to include one left-turn lane, one through lane, and one right-turn lane. In addition, the curb radius at the off-ramp will be reconstructed to slow right turning traffic. The traffic signal at this location will be upgraded to permit right-turning traffic at the off-ramp to be concurrent (overlapping) with the left-turning traffic onto the on-ramp.
