City of Oakland Head Start Center Tassafaronga is CLOSED today, January 5th. All other City of Oakland Head Start and Early Head Start centers will be OPEN today.

The City of Oakland is providing the following updates related to the ongoing winter storm.

Due to the expected heavy rains and high winds this afternoon, ALL HEAD START AND EARLY HEAD START SITES WILL BE CLOSING EARLY TODAY at 12:30 PM on January 4, 2023.

3,100 Meals Will Be Provided to Oakland Residents

On June 17^th, 2022 The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized emergency use of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine and the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19 to include use in children as young as 6 months of age. You can read more about how the FDA determined the vaccines are safe and effective for our youngest children in their press release.

This is an important moment for our Head Start children. Children under 5 are the last to have COVID-19 vaccine access, leaving them vulnerable to the disease and subject to quarantine after exposure. COVID-19 has caused illness as well as weeks of missed school for too many children. Hundreds have lost their life. COVID-19 vaccines are one of the tools we use to keep our classrooms, home visits, and socializations safe. The safety and efficacy data show that the benefit of the vaccine for children and adults far outweighs the risk of side effects of the vaccine.
