Talking Transition

Talking Transition Oakland is a citywide initiative that gives the microphone to Oaklanders whose voices have long been ignored in conversations about their city government and invites them to co-author the next chapter of Oakland’s future. The effort, led by the Mayor’s Office, City Council, and community organizations, is powered by Oakland’s next generation, building young Oaklanders’ capacity to grow into roles as future leaders of their city. Talking Transition will focus on three areas where the City needs the most public support to make change in ways that lift up Oakland’s most marginalized communities: housing and homelessness, community safety, and economic opportunity.

Get Involved Today!

Take Our Survey: We want as many Oaklanders as possible to share what’s important to you around housing and homelessness, community safety, and economic opportunity. Take the 10-minute survey today and tell your friends, families, and networks to do the same – your responses will help shape Mayor Thao’s goals and vision for the future of our city. The survey is translated into Spanish, simplified Chinese, Vietnamese, and Arabic, and is also available as a paper survey (downloadable link) at City Hall.

Join Us at Town Talks. These two big public events with the Mayor will be hosted on two Saturdays in the fall:

  • September 16 (9:30am – 2:30pm) at McClymonds High School RSVP HERE
  • September 23 (9:30am – 2:30pm) at Castlemont High School RSVP HERE

Each event will focus on the three focus areas of Talking Transition. You can share personal experiences and ideas for solving some of Oakland’s most pressing challenges and will learn how you can play a role in making Oakland’s government work hard for the issues communities need help tackling NOW.
