OPD is Investigating Four Homicides and Multiple Shootings in Two Days

So far this year, the Oakland Police Department (OPD) has investigated 17 homicides, with the most recent happening this past weekend. Since Friday, there were four lives lost to gun violence in Oakland.

OPD is Investigating Four Homicides and Multiple Shootings in Two Days

So far this year, the Oakland Police Department (OPD) has investigated 17 homicides, with the most recent happening this past weekend. Since Friday, there were four lives lost to gun violence in Oakland.

The first incident occurred on February 24, 2023, just after 7:45 PM, in the 7200 block of International Boulevard. Officers responded to the area following a ShotSpotter activation. When officers arrived, they located an adult male Montclair (Southern CA) resident who had sustained a gunshot wound(s).

Preliminary investigation shows that two individuals shot the victim multiple times before leaving the area in a waiting vehicle. Medical personnel arrived on the scene and provided medical attention.

Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin.

Roughly one hour into the investigation, officers heard gunfire in the distance a few blocks away. Officers responded to the 6900 block of International Boulevard shortly before 8:45 PM, where they located an adult female San Francisco resident inside a vehicle who had sustained a gunshot wound(s).

Paramedic personnel arrived on the scene and provided medical attention. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her name is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin.

As officers were investigating these two separate homicide crime scenes, Officers responded to the 2400 block of 67th Avenue just after 10:30 PM. When officers arrived, they located an adult male Oakland resident who had sustained a gunshot wound(s).

Officers attempted life-saving measures. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin.

A person was detained in connection with the crime.

As officers investigated these three separate homicide crime scenes, a ShotSpotter Activation occurred. Officers responded to the 8400 block of International Boulevard just before midnight.

When officers arrived, they located a victim who had sustained a gunshot wound(s).

Medical personnel arrived on the scene to assist the victim. The victim was transported to an area hospital and was last listed in critical condition.

Just after 1:15 AM, on February 26, 2023, officers responded to the 700 block of Webster Street to investigate a ShotSpotter activation.

When officers arrived, they located an adult male Oakland resident at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound(s). Paramedic personnel arrived on the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital, where he died. His identity is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin.

Two persons of interest were detained in connection with this homicide.

Less than two hours later and just before 3:00 AM, on February 26, 2023, officers were dispatched to the 7800 block of Bancroft Avenue for a shooting.

Once on scene, officers located an adult male Vallejo resident suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to an area hospital and is in stable condition.

Currently, OPD does not believe these homicides or shootings are connected.

OPD is looking into adjusting our deployment strategies to address this recent spike in violence.

So far this year, OPD’s homicide detectives have solved more than 50% of 2023 cases. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged six of these cases.
