Last year, Councilmember Reid brought the “Ebony Alert” resolution in support of SB 673 (Bradford) to Oakland City Council in partnership with a broad coalition of community groups. On January 1, 2024, the Ebony Alert law went into effect making California the first state to have an emergency alert system that notifies the public of missing Black youth and women ages 12 to 25. Additionally, on January 16th, Reid brought forth a resolution to the City Council uplifting January 2024 and National Human Trafficking Awareness Month in the City of Oakland.

Councilmember Reid currently serves on the Mayor’s Advisory Council for Human Trafficking and will continue to prioritize and lead out with community partners advocating and supporting an end to human trafficking.
