Mayor Sheng Thao, City Administrator Jestin Johnson, and Police Chief Floyd Mitchell urge all Oakland residents to participate in National Night Out (NNO) on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. NNO is America’s block party night and a great chance to reconnect with neighbors. The theme this year is: “Get Involved, Make a Difference.”
Neighbors can register to host a block party, barbeque, ice cream social or other outdoor event that brings neighbors together here:

The National Night Out registration deadline is Monday, July 29, 2024. This year, the event is sponsored by the Oakland Ballers! Register early to receive a NNO Host Packet including give-away items for the kids, caution tape, and balloons.
National Night Out empowers people and provides an opportunity for communities to heal and foster peace in our neighborhoods. A powerful and profound message is “When neighbors know each other, neighborhoods are safer.” The City encourages neighbors to have a block party and will send City staff from several departments to pay a visit to those parties, demonstrating the importance of the partnership.
The city also encourages neighbors to take the next step by starting a Neighborhood Watch Group on their street and participating in their Neighborhood Council where they can work in partnership with the City’s Neighborhood Service Coordinators and the Community Resource Officers assigned to their neighborhood.
