OPD Recovers an Assault Weapon Inside a Stolen Vehicle

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating a report of a stolen vehicle. On November 3, 2022, just before midnight, Oakland Police Department (OPD) officers were in the 2500 block of 26th Avenue when they observed a reported stolen vehicle in the middle of the roadway.

Patrol Officers saw a male individual who appeared to be asleep in the driver’s seat.

For the safety of our community members and officers, OPD’s Emergency Rescue Vehicle (ERV) responded to the scene. Officers were able to give clear commands to the individual in the vehicle.

The male adult complied with the officer’s verbal commands and was safely taken into custody.

Officers searched the stolen vehicle and recovered an assault rifle and tools associated with catalytic converter theft.
