City of Oakland pursues innovative approach to consultant assistance, partnering with both a Community Consultant Team and Technical Consultant Team.

The City, based on feedback received from community members, is implementing an innovative approach to working with consultants on the General Plan Update. We are partnering with both a Community Consultant Team and a Technical Consultant Team to ensure a planning process that 1) meets state deadlines and requirements for the GPU and 2) dedicates significant resources to deep and meaningful community engagement. This approach aligns with advancing the City's critical mission of creating a just and fair City for all (Oakland Municipal Code Section 2.29.170.1).

This approach, the selection process and the recommended consultant teams will be discussed at the October 5, 2021 City Council public meeting. A full agenda, further details and a link to the meeting is available on the Oakland Legistar calendar.

We thank all stakeholders that have been involved in developing this approach, including teams that submitted applications to assist the City. The General Plan Update process will be stronger and more equitable because of your involvement!
