Howard Tevelson joined the MCPD in 2018, served as Vice Chair in 2020 and was elected Chair for 2022. He previously spent over seven years on Oakland’s Citizen Police Review Board, where he served as both the Vice Chair and Chair of that board. He currently leads the Oakland/San Francisco support group for the Spondylitis Association of America. He relocated to Oakland in 2007 from Philadelphia, PA.
In Philadelphia, he served for over thirty years as the leader for two support groups for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. He is particularly interested in invisible disabilities. Howard has worked as a buyer of children’s and women’s shoes for John Wanamaker, a large department store on the East Coast. He then worked for the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) as both a Contract Specialist and as a Customer Liaison. While in the employment of DLA he was on their Committee for Employment of Persons with Disabilities.
Howard is currently semi-retired from the City and County of San Francisco where he continues to work part-time as a Senior Purchaser. Howard attended St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. More recently he obtained a certification as a Hypnotherapist (CHT) from HCH Institute in Lafayette, CA.
