About

The Oakland Workforce Development Board (OWDB) funds and supports a number of community-based nonprofit organizations to implement the summer youth employment program. Youth enrolled in the program receive job-readiness training, ongoing support, and meaningful paid work experience. The summer youth employment program is designed to help youth prepare for the world of work by gaining valuable skills, experience and confidence and to become empowered in their pursuit of career, academic, and personal goals.

The program is open to Oakland youth ages 16 - 21 and prioritizes serving African American/Black, Latinx, Native American, and Pacific Islander youth residing in East Oakland, Fruitvale, and West Oakland who have no or limited previous work experience and are not currently attending school or working.

Are you an employer looking to hire a young person this summer? Visit our employer services page.
