Sobrante Field in Oakland, California, has a history of dramatic transformation. It was built shortly after World War II and gradually became a working-class black neighborhood in the mid to late 1950s and early 1960s. The area has a rich history dating back to the founding of a settlement in the 19th century. The field is currently owned by Oakland Unified School District (OUSD). OUSD has an agreement with Oakland Parks, Recreation & Youth Development (OPRYD). Both entities use the field for soccer, baseball and football activities. As of March 2025, the field has been selected for Capital Improvements. Please read the section below for an overview.
