Thank you, Oakland, for your patience and preparedness during the PG&E power shutdown. We are interested in your feedback so that we can better prepare for the future. Take this brief survey.

MLK Day of Service, Monday January 20, 2020

Groups and individuals of all ages and abilities are invited to join community projects in a day of volunteer community and outdoor service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Monday, January 20, 2020. Taking place each year on the third Monday in January, the MLK Day of Service is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service – a "day on, not a day off." Oakland will host outdoor service projects to clean, green, and beautify parks, open spaces, and neighborhoods; as well as indoor service projects such as food pantry assistance.

Service for Peace has partnered with Oakland Public Works to lead this annually in Oakland since 2003, engaging thousands of volunteers in projects to clean and green Oakland. The Corporation for National and Community Service helps sponsor the event in Oakland, and throughout the nation, where hundreds of thousands of volunteers pitch in on similar community service projects.

“Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
