ADVISORY BOARD

Get involved! Join the FM Smith Advisory Board. Meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of every other month. Call the center for more details.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
FM Smith provides homework help, sports, computer lab, boating, cooking, art and crafts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Youth Gardening at FM Smith. Once a week the discovery center staff leads youth science activities. Studio One staff leads youth art activities. Youth develop social skills and make new friends.

TABLE TENNIS

FM Smith Table Tennis Club is the oldest club of its kind in Oakland. Our members are some of the best players around. Experience a friendly but competitive environment and receive a great work out in the process.

KIDS GARDENING PROGRAM

Children learn how to build and maintain gardens, plant and grow healthy vegetables, and gain knowledge about food nutrition. This hands-on program incorporates educational and cooking components, making it a great way to foster children’s understanding about developing a healthy lifestyle. All produce grown will be brought home or prepared and eaten at the center.

KARATE CLASS

Yoshiaki Ajari, 8th dan JKF Wadokai teaches our karate class. Karate is a form of martial arts that allows you to defend yourself with bare hands and feet. Karate develops character and self-confidence along with mind and body control.

SUMMER DAY CAMP
Our Day Camp supports youth in making new friends, learning new things, and getting active! Activities include: table and board games, low organized games, arts and crafts, cooking, sports, swimming and weekly field trips. Children receive a FREE and nutritious meal daily through the Alameda County Free Summer Lunch Program for children aged 1- 18.
(NOTE: Field Trip fees are separate from the registration fees.)

MINI SUMMER DAY CAMP
Our Mini Day Camp lasts only for half of the time, but it’s just as fun! Activities include: table and board games, low organized games, arts and crafts, cooking, sports, swimming and weekly field trips. Children receive a FREE and nutritious meal daily through the Alameda County Free Summer Lunch Program for children aged 1- 18.
(NOTE: Field Trip fees are separate from the registration fees.)

SOUL LINE DANCING
Soul line dancing is a choreographed dance with a repeated sequence of steps in which a group of people dance in one or more lines or rows. This class is for advanced dancer. Beginners may have a hard time keeping up. Soul line dancing is a great way to get in shape, make friends and have fun.

SENIOR CITIZENS
Seniors can make new friends while improving language skills in a safe and friendly environment. We offer crafts, cards, and Tai Chi.

GIRL SCOUTS
Our Girl Scout Program helps girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. We teach the importance of personal responsibility, the value of goal-setting, the spirit of teamwork, and the thrill of accomplishment.
