Paying Fees and Taxes in Oakland
The non-refundable business registration fee is $88.00 plus $6 in special fees for $95 total. This is due within 30 days of the business or rental start date. If your business is located in Oakland, you are also required to obtain a zoning permit from the Zoning Department
If you are renting out residential property you will need to register with the City's Rent Adjustment Program. Once you're registered with the RAP, you will also need to pay a rent adjustment fee of $68 per rental unit.
Who is required to file for a business tax?
All persons conducting business within the City of Oakland. Included are commercial/industrial and residential rental property owners, retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers, service companies, self-employed persons, independent contractors and businesses conducted within one's home, and non-profit organizations.
How often do I need to pay my business taxes?
Business Tax must be paid ANNUALLY, not later than March 1st of each year. It is the taxpayer's responsibility to renew the business tax on time .
What happens if I don't register and pay my business tax?
