​ Oakland's Park and Recreation Advisory Commission (PRAC) researches and formulates policy recommendations and plans for the future development of Oakland Parks, Recreation & Youth Development (OPRYD) and advises the Oakland City Administrator and City Council on matter affecting the operation of the OPRYD and their facilities, functions, exhibits and duties.

Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission (PRAC) consists of 11 seats, appointed by the Mayor and Council to represent the citizens of Oakland.

Commissioner applications are sought from candidates of all backgrounds and from all parts of the city who are interested in preserving the city's parks and recreation facilities and who have one or more of the following desired work or volunteer experience:

  • youth development experience
  • planning and implementing major projects
  • experience with recreational programs
  • mediation skills
  • enthusiasm for Oakland

PRAC meets the second Wednesday of the month from 4:30 to 6:00 pm at the Garden Center at Lakeside Park. More information and the online application process can be found here.
